Hollybrook

30 Hollybrook is a period house nestled in the architectural conservation area of Clontarf. Built in the 1900s, the house required a careful approach to restoration and extension to modernise its functionality while preserving its historic character. Our clients aimed to create a home that catered to contemporary family living, emphasising open, light-filled spaces and the seamless integration of period features.

The original layout presented challenges, particularly the small, dark kitchen and the isolation of the lounge and drawing-room from the rest of the ground floor. To address these issues, we designed a contemporary open-plan extension at the rear of the house. This addition created a spacious and airy kitchen, dining, and living space, perfect for family life and entertaining.

By transforming the original external window in the drawing-room into an internal window overlooking the new kitchen, we achieved a greater sense of connection and flow throughout the ground floor. This design not only brought light deep into the heart of the home but also fostered a sense of openness and visual connectivity.

We are very pleased with the final result, as are the clients, saying “We now have a home that we are beyond delighted with and we had a huge amount of fun along the way.”
